History of Plastic Bags

Plastic or Paper Bags: Pros and Cons

Customers are sometimes asked “plastic or paper” when it comes to their bag choice following a shopping trip. Many grocery stores, for example, are mostly providing plastic. What are the pros and cons when it comes to paper and plastic for the wholesaler, retail store owner and grocery stores, in general?

Paper bags are the original way to transport products after a shopping trip, but have been replaced by the plastic bag. Plastic bags work better than a paper bag and many feel it looks better too. Everything about it is better. A plastic bag is more durable and is easier to use than a paper bag. Then consider moisture because if it comes in contact with a paper bag and the bag will quickly loose it’s quality while with a plastic bag it is waterproof allowing it to remain strong. The main selling point can be that plastic bags can be used many times. These are strong enough not to tear under pressure and are difficult to puncture.

When recycling old plastic bags they are made into new resin to create new plastic bags.Paper bags can be recycled too, of course and they biodegrade quickly, but many plastic bags are being created so they are biodegradable as well. Yet, making plastic bags doesn’t take away trees as a paper bag does. When cutting down the trees for paper bags the equipment also product harmful fumes

Well, plastic is also the most cost effective because money is saved. It is strong enough to place many items inside allowing for less waste and they can be produced for less. It even costs less to make a plastic bag compared to a paper bag. An example is less water and energy is used for plastic bag production.
